Lately, my mind has been cluttered and uninspired… a perfect time to dig into the deep recesses of the electronic and real-life desktop for inspiration. While I am still formulating some new ideas, I found an old piece that I had written. The letter was written the evening after the 2004 Presidential election to express my disgust at those events. Rather than reiterate the contents of the letter, you can simply read it for yourself. If you enjoy this piece, I also wrote about my stance on zero-tolerance policies.
As an aside, I have since reconsidered my political affiliation and happened on the Liberaterian Party.

Fictional Characters
It has been a very long time since I wrote about the famous “Harry Potter” series. At the time, I had a very vague idea about the original novel and its sequel. Those long-time readers will recognize that my position was that the fantasy and real worlds can and should be seperate. Many people take the opposite position and feel that we have to protect our children from such dangerous thoughts.
Recently, however, I had the opportunity to read the first book. It was a fabulous and engaging read. I don’t plan on waiting in costume at the bookstore for the moment the next book comes out; I do plan on reading each book in the series and perhaps collecting them. My bookshelves are lately a little barren, after a long-overdue clearing.
The parents who think that their children need protecting are very much over-reacting. The series is a light-hearted look into the life of a young boy thrust into a completely new world and flourishing in it. The major theme of the first installment is that of the stuggle between good and evil.
While I doubt I need to provide a basic review of the novel, I will just say that I couldn’t put it down and am looking forward to reading the next in the series, so that I can catch up to the rest of the world.
An Unusual Link
During last night’s surfing, I ran across this resume that was written up by Kelly Kramer. I can’t seem to find Ms. Kramer’s website through all of the blog entries at the top of the list. Here’s a bit of a sample:
Accomplishments as president:
- Shattered record for biggest annual deficit in history.
- Set economic record for most private bankruptcies filed in any 12 month period.
- First year in office set the all-time record for most days on vacation by any president in US history.
- Set the record for most campaign fund-raising trips than any other president in US history.
- In my first two years in office over 2 million Americans lost their job.
Harry Potter == Devil?
Matt Jones, over at his site makes some excellent points about the super-fundamentalistic tendencies that much of the Christian community seems to be holding (from an outsider’s perspective).
Far too many people take things far too literally. Besides, if Christian parents were so confident in their methods of raising their children, why should they have such vitriolic reactions to others reading it? Matt puts it very eloquently, that these are just fiction. Fantasy and exploration of imagination are natural tendencies. While imaginations often need guidance, stifling them with censorship is certainly not the answer.
Prudish Americans
I am getting so sick of my fellow Americans be so damned modest in a so-called “Land of the Free.” For a small amount of background, TechTV has decided to air a program called “Wired For Sex.” According to everything I have read, it would appear to be an objective view on how various technology has influenced sex, the sex act, humans’ reproduction, physical attraction, and more. Now, there is a torrent of backlash on both TechTV’s message boards and on Leoville Town Square. As an American, I believe that it is everyone’s right to choose their own course of action, as long as it will not harm others. The folks claiming that TechTV shouldn’t air the show are not bothering to utilize their freedom of choice to change the channel. Instead of writing directly to the station management to attempt to change the minds of the network executives, many of these people have resorted to whining on these message boards and a small minority of those have taken it upon themselves to attack those of us in support of an honest exploration of what is so innately primal that we wouldn’t exist without it.
