Updated Software

‘I’m a little behind the times, but I have opted to upgrade my blogging software to WordPress, an open-source application. I’d like to thank Matt Jones for turning me on to WordPress, even if it only took two months to get to it… The software really has a ton of features. Among other things, it allows multiple authors, including the ability to allow users to register on the blog and make posts, of the administrator desires. Another cool feature is the chance to post to a blog via email. The software monitors a specific email account for any new messages and posts them. Ideally, I should be able to post from my cell phone… very cool for quick short messages.

Anyway, with the (now, not really) recent news of the price change for Movable Type, as well as my normal open-source bias, WordPress seems to be the best choice. I don’t mean to get geeky on this blog, but I thought I ought to post something…

Here’s to hoping that the next update doesn’t take months to post.

Blog Spam

Today, I decided to come back to my blog, for the first time since I announced that my mother had passed away. As I logged into the blog interface, I noticed a hefty number of new comments. After a brief check of a few archived entries, I found two spammers that have placed comments all over the blog. Since I found them, they have been removed and their IP addresses banned.

After I took care of all of that, I checked out Matt Jones’ website and found that he had the same problem today as well. That’s rather ironic that we would not only have the same problem, but that we would discover and fix it on the same day, too.

My next move on the internet was to the Movable Type website. I was going for the link to MT Plugins and ended up finding a story on the front page from a few days ago describing the exact problem I was having. This is where I discovered that an updated version of MT would fix it. Since I am writing this at school and the network administrator has FTP disabled, I can’t do it at the moment, but I will be doing that very soon.

Pardon the Cobwebs

Over the last year or so, I have had this blog and my main personal blog, and I just haven’t had a great deal to say… Having speedy internet access at school will help in a month or so, but until then, things will be sorta slow. Of course, at whatever point I will have broadband internet access, I will surely update more often. And I need to work on other content, especially in my Linux Learner’s section. I have another new design for it, just not as much content as I hoped. I have spurts of creativity, and then long droughts of very little to say. To all three of you who read this blog, I apologize. I will attempt to better in the future.

Rebuilding Blog

Over the last few days, I have had to rebuild each of the blogs on my site here. I was attempting some maintenance and locked myself out of the system, so I have taken the most recent snapshot of the old blog and recreated all the old entries here. What is missing, however are the old comments. But everything here is exactly as it was before, but some of the old links may no longer work, since the entries were recreated in a different order than they were originally created.

Thanks for your patience, since I took down the old blog while I was redoing it.
