Blog Spam

Today, I decided to come back to my blog, for the first time since I announced that my mother had passed away. As I logged into the blog interface, I noticed a hefty number of new comments. After a brief check of a few archived entries, I found two spammers that have placed comments all over the blog. Since I found them, they have been removed and their IP addresses banned.

After I took care of all of that, I checked out Matt Jones’ website and found that he had the same problem today as well. That’s rather ironic that we would not only have the same problem, but that we would discover and fix it on the same day, too.

My next move on the internet was to the Movable Type website. I was going for the link to MT Plugins and ended up finding a story on the front page from a few days ago describing the exact problem I was having. This is where I discovered that an updated version of MT would fix it. Since I am writing this at school and the network administrator has FTP disabled, I can’t do it at the moment, but I will be doing that very soon.

  2. Yes, the MT-Blacklist plugin is wonderful. Also, I don’t have the link to it right now but there is a python script you can cron so that it runs once a day and updates your blacklist. Pretty nifty ;-] You should see my activity log… Lot’s of blocked spam ever since I installed it!

  3. About how much spam did this person leave and what was the name?
